According to United Nations reports by the year 2050 we will be 10,000 million souls and most of them living in megacities, this will complicate things quite a bit not only due to the need to produce more food with the same available land but also due to all the logistics of distribution and storage.

Según informes de Naciones Unidas para el año 2050 seremos 10.000 millones de almas y la mayoría de ellas viviendo en megaciudades, esto complicará bastante las cosas no solo por la necesidad de producir más alimentos con el mismo suelo disponible sino por toda la logística de distribución y almacenamiento.

Fortunately, NASA has been studying the problem for decades, not so much because of the overpopulation of the Earth and the problem of feeding humanity but to feed the astronauts on their current missions and thinking of one day being able to have permanent bases on the Moon and Mars.

Afortunadamente la NASA ha estado estudiando el problema durante décadas, no tanto por el tema de la superpoblación de la Tierra y el problema de alimentar a la humanidad sino para dar de comer a los astronautas en sus misiones actuales y pensando en poder tener algún día bases permanentes en la Luna y Marte.

A soilless hydroponic system where a minimal and constant film of water is circulating surrounding the seedlings, which contains all the necessary nutrients and does not need any type of pesticide or herbicide, produces tasty and nutritious food harvested at the optimal time for the plant and consumer.

Un sistema hidropónico sin tierra donde se hace circular una película mínima y constante de agua que rodea las plántulas, que contiene todos los nutrientes necesarios y que no necesita ningún tipo de pesticida ni herbicida, produce alimentos sabrosos y nutritivos cosechados en el momento óptimo para la planta y el consumidor.

The characteristics of these crops allow them to be located near the cities, so the transport chain is drastically reduced and the products can practically be harvested on demand reaching the tables of the consumers newly harvested, which would save the waste of tons of food as it happens now.

Las características de estos cultivos permiten ubicarlos cerca de las ciudades por lo que la cadena de transporte se reduce drásticamente y los productos prácticamente pueden ser cosechados bajo demanda llegando a las mesas de los consumidores recién recolectados lo que ahorraría el desperdicio de toneladas de alimentos como ocurre ahora.

A simple vista este tipo de cultivo pareciera más costoso amigo @mauromar, lo digo por la cantidad de cosas que hay que instalar.

Entonces aparentemente ya tienen el problema resuelto, no solo para 10.000 millones de almas sino también para las futuras generaciones que habitaran en otros planetas.

The problems that society in general faces, related transcends beyond food, for example, if we stop to see what will happen with medicines, transportation, hospital care, it is quite complicated.
But this solution offered by NASA,of vertical farms, is great, and makes me think that there must be solution of.many more things being worked on.

As always in some way they are developing technologies that are for common use, many inventions that NASA has developed, in some parts of the world are used, now this new way of growing plants at any time you or I can have it in a room in our house.

Hello dear friend, I think it is inevitable the increase in population worldwide, coupled with this, global warming caused by a large amount of greenhouse gases, hopefully only a small percentage of crops to be established in the future will be in artificial spaces and continue betting on the production in natural ecosystems with clean technologies to reduce pollution levels.

Vertical agriculture would be a parallel solution to supply food to the population, especially in large cities where there are sometimes underutilized spaces.

Vertical farm sounds promising.Farming without soil,solat light and with very water-simly amazing.

At present there are great opinions about whether or not indoor agriculture is profitable due to its costs, currently the profitability of this system oscillates in 50%, at present the countries that are at the forefront in this type of cultivation are Spain, Holland , Israel and the United States. This type of agriculture is still in its first steps, but promises substantial growth in the coming decades. As technology facilitates greater efficiency, this technique will be implemented and its costs will decrease.
