📜 TEXT:GENESIS 39:1-15📜

🔑📖KEY VERSE: "There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (GENESIS 39:9).

An African adage says the fury of the flood never seeks to spare any building. It is the owner of the structure who must erect a strong bulwark to resist the raging deluge. Similarly, the devil and his agents in the world are never discouraged from practising their tempting wiles on the Christian, to bring them down. It is the believer who must take maximum advantage of God's grace in him and not cave in.

The woman who invited Joseph to commit sexual immorality with her thought she would succeed in getting him. This is the mindset of her present-day counterpart. But the genuine Christian must not allow himself to be ensnared. And the only way not to fall is to remain firm and profess uncompromising loyalty to God as Joseph did. You must have a strong spiritual defence against the tide of temptation. You must not negotiate on terms or oath of secrecy with sinful partners if they threaten blackmail.

Joseph's parents were not at the scene of the attempted seduction in Egypt to serve as counsellors or a check to prevent him from sinning. But, having sat for years at the feet of Jacob, his God-fearing father, learning the ways of God, Joseph was adequately kitted to resist the moves of his master's wife, ignoring the enormous risks to his life.

This underscores the eternally weighty admonition of the word of God: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). The training Joseph took from his parents fortified him against acting contrary to God. Transient treasures of transgression must not entice us to sin against God.

✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Honour God with holiness and expect rewards now and hereafter.

a. Envied, oppressed, persecuted, helpless and sold to slavery, " and the LORD was with him", v2.
b. What was the evidence that the Lord was with him? He prospered in all he did and he was a great blessing to the house of Potiphar, vv2,3.
c. He was moving higher in the cadre of career success. He was promoted to NO 1 above all the heathen, though indigenes, in the house, v4.
d. Do you observe that this is what God promised Abraham and his seed? "I will bless thee...and you will be a blessing," Genesis 12:2.
e. The envy, oppression, persecution, threats and attacks of the wicked should be a stepping stone to glory and should not be a cause of hopelessness and fear. Cheer up and "glorify God in the fires".

a. Are you experiencing those blessings of Abraham like Joseph?
b. Are the works of your hands blessed or you are a failure or failing?
c. Who are those you are blessings to? There should not be any excuse. Abraham's blessings are yours👌

a. To every believer progressing on the staircase to glory, there is always an enemy that is unavoidable that God will always permit to test, try and task your faith to grow higher. In the case of Joseph, it was his brothers and now a woman.
b. The woman came on the platform of love and affection for Joseph.
c. A demonic spirit camouflaging as the spirit of love was pushing the woman "daily" to throw away caution and put real pressure on Joseph "from day to day". Only God knows what was going on in the spirit realm.
d. The temptress had her strategy. Apart from daily pressure without giving up, she waited for the right time to strike. When they were alone.
e. Thank God she failed👏

✅ Have you been able to discern the enemy on your staircase to glory?
✅ Is it Lust, love of money, licentiousness or love of leisure, laziness, lawlessness, etc.?
✅ What are you doing to make sure you are an all-time conqueror?

Joseph did not have the whole knowledge that he should avoid going alone to a place where the influence of a tempter is strong but he had the right heart.

✅ If Joseph's heart was not purified and he was just battling with lust and masturbation, rising and falling, could he have survived? So make sure your heart is purified and fully surrendered to Christ👌

✅ If Joseph was not determined that he will keep his garment white and be focused on the glory ahead, the likelihood of overcoming is slim.
"My heart is fixed, my heart is fixed"🤜
✅ If Jacob, his father, had been living a questionable or promiscuous life, will it be helpful to Joseph at this critical time of his life? Leaders, parents and mentors must be careful to live an exemplary life.

1 Lord, in line with the blessings of Abraham, give me power and favour to be experiencing prosperity and all-round promotion amid my challenges🙏
2 Lord, give me discernment to recognise the enemies at my staircase to glory and teach me how to handle them🙏
3 Lord, work out uncompromising righteousness and principles in my heart that will always make me a victor🙏

  1. Lord, I ask for all our youths in the church that they will have the power to overcome all enemies at the staircase of their glory🙏

1 Yield not to temptation,
For yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you,
Some other to win;
Fight valiantly onward,
Evil passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through.

Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

2 Shun evil companions,
Bad language disdain;
God’s name held in reverence,
Nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest,
Kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through. Refrain

3 To him that overcometh,
God giveth a crown;
Through faith, we will conquer,
Though often cast down;
He who is our Savior,
Our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through. Refrain
