Real Exhibition of Our Beautiful Game - A Night To Remember.

All the neutrals that watched the clash between heavyweights Real Madrid and Chelsea would have been pleased with what they saw. Chelsea fans although disappointed their team couldn’t progress to the next stage wouldn’t beat themselves up too much because they know the boys fought for the badge.

After getting thumped at Stamford Bridge and heading into this fixture 3-1 down, 90% or more of the football world were sure tie was pretty much done.

But the optimistic Chelsea fans believed a comeback could happen. The build up to the game got more exciting after Chelsea thrashed Southampton 6-0 at St.Mary’s park during the weekend. The blues were all over the Saints and if they were able to put double figures past Southampton, people wouldn’t complain.

The game kicked off at 19:00 at the Santiago Bernabau after both teams confirmed their starting XIs.

Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelloti went with a 4-3-3 formation with former blue Thinaut Courtois in goal. Alaba, Nacho, Mendy and made up the back 4. The midfield trio comprised of Modric. Kronos and Casemiro. Vinicius Junior, Benzema and Valverde made up the front 3.

Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel went with a 3-4-3 system having Mendy in goal and protected by a back 3 of James, Silva, Rudiger. The wing backs were Loftus Cheek and Alonso adding to a midfield duo of Kante and Kovacic. Tuchel went with a forward line of Werner, Havertz and Mount.

It was quite a shock for me when I saw the line up especially with Loftus Cheek playing in the wing back position again. But after such a good display against Southampton it’s not that much of a surprise Tuchel trusted him with the role again.

The game kicked off and for large parts of the game, the blues were all over Real Madrid. Their efforts were rewarded with a very beautiful strike from Mason Mount in the 15th Mount.

The goal came from a kind of lofted pass from Werner that found Mount in space. He then blasted it into the net.

Both teams tried to find a way to score before the break but couldn’t. The half time whistled was blown and the players went for half time team talks. I’m sure all those that watched that game can tell the team that was roasted by their manager.

The teams resumed for the second half and it was no different. The blues were still on top and scored from a controversial corner in the 51st minute. The blues got the corner from a “deflected” ball by James. Real Madrid believed the ball wasn’t deflected and it should have been a goal kick.

Perhaps that’s why Chelsea’s third goal by Marcos Alonso was ruled out for handball. Karma😅?, I doubt it. Per the rules of the game I can understand why it was given as offside. At this point Chelsea were 3-3 level on aggregate courtesy of Antonio Rudiger’s header.

Chelsea still pushed till Timo Werner gave them a third goal after some nice work down the left. Chelsea at this point were 4-3 up in agregate.

Carlo Ancelloti made some substitutions bringing Rodrygo and Marcelo in and taking off Mendy and Casamiro.

In the 80th minute, Luka Modric breathed life into the game for Madrid by delivering the perfect cross for Rodrygo to volley in with almost his first kick of the game.

This turned things around again and both teams were level on aggregate.

Extra time was added and in the first half of extra time, Vinicius did marvelously on the left to deliver a good ball for Benzema to head home. The comeback was complete at this point for Madrid. You could see that the blues have everything on the pitch and looked very tired.

However, Pulisic after coming on for some good chances and should have probably buried them.

This was a game full of everything you want from a champions league game. Emotions, drama, hope, late equalizers, moments of magic, you name it.

As a Chelsea I’m disappointed we couldn’t hold on to the 3-0 lead but I’m glad my team didn’t give up and at least tried to get back into the game.

I can say the difference in the game and what turned it around for Madrid was Modric and that beautiful pass. Madrid will walk away knowing they are quite lucky to be in the semi finals.

The man that made everything possible for Madrid.

However, qudos to Real Madrid for progressing to the semi finals of this season’s champions league.

Chelsea play Crystal Palace in the FA cup tie weekend and after witnessing two good performances in a row, I’m very confident the blues can get the job done.

Perhaps that’s why Chelsea’s third goal by Marcos Alonso was ruled out for handball. Karma😅?

😂😂Karma had nothing to do with your disallowed goal. It was a handball by Alonso. I would have understood if his hands were still close to his body after the ball hit his thighs.

But if you look at the replay very well, Alonso controlled the ball with a moving hand away from his body which definitely helped him in controlling the ball.

People are praising Modric and saying bla bla bla.

All am saying is that there is no way in the world that Chelsea fans at 3-0 up thought madrid wouldn't get a goal.

Madrid will walk away knowing they are quite lucky to be in the semi finals.

😂Don Carlo wouldn't care. If you watch madrid in Laliga this season you will realize we have always been lucky to win certain games even against small teams.

We give the teams chances and when you don't takw thise chances we will come back and bite you😂

This is the difference between each level of football. If you play in the Championship, you can afford to give away chances because the opponents strikers are shit. In the Premier League, the strikers are better so if you give away chances, you'll concede. In a Champions League Quarter Final, if you give away one chance, you will almost definitely concede.

Thats true. But i believe at most times the front men count too.

Of course it was but we Chelsea fans will never see it that way 😂.

And that’s why it’s always good to have good finishers

I think that Crystal Palace will beat Chelsea 🤔

Oh no I doubt Palace will win 😅

The match was amazing. I was in suspense several time. But I'm glad Madrid scaled through cause that's my club.

Of course as a Madrid fan you’ll be happy 😂
